Why We Volunteer

When parents volunteer at school, it fosters a stronger school community, enhances the learning environment, and sets a positive example for students about the importance of giving back. This involvement helps create a supportive atmosphere where students feel more connected and engaged in their education.

WMSS Family Volunteer Requirement

Each family is required to complete 20 volunteer hour during the school year. If you have multiple students attending, your family still only needs to fulfill a total of 20 hours.

Who Can Earn Hours

Parents, guardians, family members, and older siblings (not attending WMSS) can earn volunteer hours for your family.

How to Record Your Hours

When you enter the front office, you’ll find two green notebooks on the shelf to your left. Please locate your family’s sheet and record the activity, date, and time spent volunteering.

Earn Hours Without BPS Registration:
  • Garden Days: Held monthly from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on designated Saturdays. A BPS registration is NOT required to participate. Stay for as long as you can; we’ll have a table set up to record your time. Note: Each participating family member (excluding WMSS students) can earn hours. For example, if a mom, dad, and older sibling volunteer for 2 hours, they will collectively earn 6 hours for the family.

  • Fall Festival: You can earn hours for time spent purchasing items. For example, if it takes you an hour to shop for two items, you earn one volunteer hour. Contact your child’s teacher for a list of items if you haven’t received it yet.

  • Donate Used Uniforms: Earn 15 minutes for each piece of clothing donated, provided items are in good condition.

  • Volunteering at Home: Teachers often need help with cutting and organizing projects. Keep an eye on Class Dojo for updates and requests.

  • Box Tops for Education: Use the Box Tops app to keep track of eligible purchases. Earn 1 hour of volunteer time with 40 Box Tops.
